Wildlife Biologist Recommendations for TEXAS BLENDSBy: Brandon Key (Wildlife Biologist)
Recommended Planting & Broadcasting Procedures for Best Results.
- If possible choose an area that might have been used as a plantation in the past (Example: An old oat, hay, or crop field) this will make your work a little easier. If you don’t have a abandoned field look for open areas close to dense woody areas (Example: An area that contains a lot of cover opportunity will allow the deer to fill more comfortable during there feeding). After choosing an area. I recommend using an herbicide (Ex: Round Up) to kill of any un-wanted grasses and or weeds.
- Once the area is free of any un-wanted vegetation, you should begin by plowing, tilling or working the soil in some manner, smoothing and firming the seed bed to provide the best possible contact of soil to seed for the best germination and root development.
- Establishing your wildlife food plot from seeds requires proper planting of your seeds. Different seeds require different planting depths. This is why I would recommend using the Texas Blends Organic Food Plot System. The blend is perfectly designed with the proper amount of seeds, organic fertilizer, and a special super booster for maximum plant growth. All of the seeds in the system are required to be planted at the same depth, making this easy for you to use, and with out being time consuming. After preparing a seed bead for the Texas Blends System then all you would need to do is broadcast the blended mixer of seeds and organic fertilizer on the designated area. (One 50lb bag will cover ¼ acre). Remember the Texas Blends Organic Food Plot System is the best system for producing the highest level of nutrients that your vegetation can support.
- I highly recommend you re-fertilize with the Texas Blends Organic Fertilizer 90 days after the first planting. This will ensure that your plants will push through their threshold for the highest level of nutrition. You can obtain the Texas Blends Straight Organic fertilizer blended with the super booster by calling (866) 770-7781 (The BIG Sportsman)
